This guide with provide you the basics to get up and running with your FileTransfers.net site. You may wish to print this guide for easy reference.
Login
After a site administrator creates your account, you will receive an email with your username and temporary password. Go to the web address indicated in the email and log in with your username and temporary password. You will then see a screen that will allow you to create your own password (consistent with the password requirements of the site). After logging in you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Main Menu (1)
Here is where you select your main areas. Clicking the "hamburger" menu (the three horizontal lines at the top-left) will open/close this pane. Clicking your name in the blue rectangle will show your personal site preferences and address book. Dashboard gives you an overview of files you've recently sent or had sent to you. Files is where you access your workspaces (top level folders) and files/folders. Deleted Files are where files/folders deleted from a workspace are held until permanently deleted (as defined by a site Admin). Support contains helpful documents and your site Admin's contact info, in the event you have questions.
Workspaces (2)
The workspaces you belong to will appear when you click on Files in the Main Menu. To change the Workspace you’re in, simply click the name of another workspace. If you belong to more than 15 workspaces, options will appear to help manage the workspaces you belong to, including a Search Workspaces field/drop down menu, selecting Favorites, and toggling between View All and View Recents.
Create Folders* (3)
Clicking the Create Folder button and typing in a name (adhering to the requirements indicated under the name field) will create a folder inside the workspace/folder you're currently in.
Upload Files* (4)
You can upload individual files or multiple files/folders at once using either drag-and-drop or browse-to-select. CAUTION: Don’t close or quit your browser window during transfer or your upload will be canceled.
Drag-and-Drop
- First, navigate to the workspace/folder you wish to upload the file(s) to and then click the Upload Files button.
- Drag files from your computer to the files listing. NOTE: You can drag-and-drop multiple files in any browser, but only Google’s Chrome will let you drag-and-drop folders. When using another browser, create your folder on the site using the Create Folder button, click into the folder, and upload there.
- Select any Preferences or Send To recipients you wish in the appropriate areas of the screen. Send To recipients will receive an email with a link to download the file(s).
- When ready, click Upload (or click the "X" in the upper right to cancel).
Browse-to-Select
- Follow the same instructions as above, but instead of dragging and dropping files, click the Upload Files button and click “Select Files”. Navigate to your file(s) and click to select. You can hold Shift or Ctrl/Alt keys to select multiple files. Click Open.
Actions Menu (5)
First click the blue down arrow to the right of the file or folder name.
- To Download a file, click the Download* icon (you can also simply click the file name itself).
- To send a file to someone, click the Send* icon and enter the person’s email or username, or click See All Users and select their name from the list.
- Clicking Create Public Link* will let you create a link to a file that you can then copy and paste elsewhere, like into an email.
- Rename* allows you change the file name.
- Click Move* or Copy* and then choose a destination for the file to be moved or copied to.
- Tag lets you add/change the file tag, a short annotation used to identify files.
- To delete a file, click Delete*.
- Scheduled Delete* let's you set a number of days in the future when the file will automatically delete.
Search in This Location (6)
To search for a particular file (or set of files) within your current Files location, enter your search term in the field to the left of Search. Files and folders matching what you've typed will appear below the search field (and will update the more you type). Icons to the right of the matched file name allow you to Jump to that file, Download, Send, or Delete (depending on your permissions). Clicking "Search" will display the matched search results in your current Files window. Click Clear Search in the yellow box to show all files again.
Search All of Your Files (7)
To search for files or folders within all of the workspaces you belong to, either begin typing in the "Search All of Your Files" field or click the blue down arrow to open a window with additional filter criteria. When typing in the "Search All of Your Files" field files and folders matching what you've typed will appear below the search field (and will update the more you type). Icons to the right of the matched file name allow you to Jump to that file, Download, Send, or Delete (depending on your permissions).
Help and Notifications (8)
If you require additional help in using the site, click the Help link (question mark icon). There you have links to additional help guides and can get contact information for asking questions or requesting more help.
The Notifications link (bell icon) will display any notifications you have. Clicking this will display your list of notifications, including files sent to you.
Logout (9)
When finished using the system, always click the Logout button to prevent anyone else from accessing your site from your computer without your knowledge. The site will automatically log you out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
